Really interesting to see the disconnect between your composite index and GDP. It’s not the GDP is arbitrary, but that it only captures a small slice of what is important in our lives.
Thanks. It's often been difficult to listen to some of the discussion of productivity that focuses solely on GDP per capita. This is starting to change, and these measures have a lot of validity. It will be interesting to see where they go in the next while.
I can see various things have dis/improved but damn if I can relate them to anything. I would be curious if you can come to any conclusions? And, of course, any conclusions that you come to should meet my own biases (and only my biases, of course)! Just kidding. Perhaps that explains why I cannot discern whether we see dis or improvements.
This was really about finding a possible alternative to the GDP rather than coming to any strong conclusions about historical events. My guess is that I'll employ the composite index in future posts that'll, hopefully, be more directly insightful. Stay tuned.
